Whole Curriculum Rationale

At Barr View Primary Academy, our curriculum is meticulously designed and thoughtfully selected to cater to the diverse needs of all learners, irrespective of their backgrounds and starting points. We believe in providing an inclusive and equitable education that empowers every child to reach their full potential. Our curriculum is a reflection of our commitment to inspiring children, fostering their curiosity, and nurturing their optimism when encountering new or challenging learning experiences.

Our curriculum aligns seamlessly with the whole school vision at Barr View Primary Academy, which is to INSPIRE our pupils, support them to EMBRACE all aspects of school life and to ACHIEVE. By providing a curriculum that is inclusive, inspiring, and aspirational, we contribute to the realisation of our school's overarching goals and values, fostering a culture of excellence and equity for all learners.

Meeting National Curriculum Requirements

Our curriculum is aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring that all statutory requirements are met while also offering a broad and balanced education. By incorporating resources and frameworks such as White Rose for Mathematics, The Write Stuff for Writing, Read Write Inc for Phonics, Jigsaw for PSHE, Discovery for RE and Kapow for the rest of our curriculum, we are able to deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences that support the development of key skills and knowledge across various subjects.

Appropriateness for Our Pupils

With 18% of our children identified as having Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), 23% eligible for Pupil Premium support, and cohort consisting of 54% boys and 46% girls, it is crucial that our curriculum is tailored to meet the specific needs of all learners. The resources and approaches we have chosen are carefully selected to provide differentiated support, scaffolding, and enrichment opportunities to ensure that every child can access and engage with the curriculum effectively.

Aspirational Nature

Our curriculum is aspirational in nature, aiming to challenge and motivate children to achieve beyond their perceived limitations. By incorporating a range of resources and methodologies, we create a stimulating learning environment that encourages children to strive for excellence, develop a growth mindset, and build resilience in the face of academic challenges.

Subject Vision

The reason we teach using resources such as White Rose, The Write Stuff, Read Write Inc, Jigsaw, and Kapow is to provide our students with a well-rounded and enriching educational experience. Our intent is to cultivate a love for learning, develop essential skills, and instil a sense of curiosity and optimism in our pupils. Through these resources, we aim to nurture a deep understanding of core subjects and promote holistic growth in every child.

Communication with Stakeholders

To effectively implement our curriculum rationale and ensure its successful delivery, we will communicate this information transparently and consistently with all stakeholders. This includes engaging parents, teachers, support staff, and the wider school community through regular updates, workshops, newsletters, and parent-teacher meetings. By fostering open communication channels, we can work collaboratively to support the holistic development and academic success of all our learners.
